The Gold Between Us

Artist Notes

This piece was made for Gold Embrace, a tribute show to Gustav Klimt. What has always pulled me toward Klimt is that in his work gold was never just decoration. It was reverence, a sacred glow he wrapped around love and memory and the connection between souls. I wanted to find my own version of that.

She is the still center of the painting, a quiet point of beauty and grace. Around her I built a whole constellation of symbols, the marks and memories and movements of a life, but she stays luminous and whole, untouched by the noise of it. Held close to her heart is a jeweled darling of the sea, the one who shares her patterns and her rhythms, her soul’s design.

Between the two of them flows something unseen. A gold thread running between souls, between memory and shared journeys. That thread is really what the painting is about. The most powerful connections are often the ones that shimmer just beyond words, the ones you feel rather than name.

Even in a world full of symbols and motion, I wanted peace to remain at the heart of it. Gold becomes the luminous thread between two beings, the place where loyalty and love turn into something radiant.
